Dear Students and Families of the Leicester Central School,

I hope you are all enjoying your summer. I am anxious to hear about all of your adventures during the past weeks as I meet you all. I am excited to begin my first year as principal of Leicester School.Three years ago, at this time, I was excited and nervous being a “rookie” principal. After spending a rewarding two years at Whiting School, I feel honored to now be a part of the Leicester community. This summer has given me a good indication of the spirit of Leicester School. I witnessed a summer school that was fun, engaging and creative. A dedicated staff led by Nancy McGill always had a smile on their face no matter what the temperature or weather offered. It was a great way to be introduced to the school. I have now met many students and look forward to meeting the rest of you. When I have been in the school at various times throughout the summer without summer school going on, I realized that a school is just any other building when it’s missing its main ingredient… Kids! So, I really am looking forward to your return and I hope you look forward to coming back-even a little bit:)

We are excited to welcome new staff to our school. Mrs. Horn will be taking a one year leave of absence from her 5//6 classroom, becoming the math specialist for our supervisory union. We welcome Mrs. Kara Beste who will be teaching the 5/6 class for this year. She and her family are looking forward to moving to Vermont and starting her new teaching position. I’m sure Leicester School and the Leicester community will embrace Mrs. Beste and give her the necessary support that any new teacher would need and appreciate. Mrs. Coro and Mrs.Horn, as well as board members (and parents), Michelle Pierpont and Hannah Sessions have already met Kara and are looking forward to her being on board.

We will also have a new para-professional, Celeste Romano. Many of you will remember Celeste student teaching with Mrs. Coro and Mrs. Horn last year. Paloma Duggan will no longer be with us as she has accepted a position in the Rochester, Vermont school. We wish Paloma the best!

Renee Ursitti has accepted a paraprofessional position at the Mary Hogan School in Middlebury. Thank you for all of your dedicated work to Leicester School, Renee! We are actively in search of a new Library/Media Specialist for the beginning of the school year.

We also said goodbye to our nurse, Daphne Leahemmer, who retired in June. We did hire a new nurse but alas, she has found a full time position. So... we are actively in search of a school nurse.

As you can see, we have been very busy preparing for your arrival!

If students or parents have any questions for me before school begins, the best way to get in touch with me would be my e-mail,, or if that is not convienient, call the school phone (247-8825), leave a message, and I will get back to you.
