Principal's Corner

Happy New Year! From the beginning of the new year to mid January, we seem to have experienced all kinds of weather: bitter cold, snow, wind, mild spring- like conditions, and rain. It’s been a challenge to keep up with the appropriate clothes. Here at school we have been hearty Vermonters, going outside for most of the days. As a rule, if the temperature is above zero, we try to venture outdoors. So, this is a reminder to have kids dress appropriately.

As many of you may already know, our librarian, Nancy Kerwin, decided to leave Leicester School. She has family obligations that have made it necessary to move on. We are lucky to have Mrs. Waldie, our librarian assistant, step into the role. All of the staff and children are familiar and comfortable with Mrs. Waldie. We will continue with Mrs. Waldie as our media specialist/librarian for the remainder of this year.

The fifth and sixth grade class has begun rehearsals for their Shakespeare play, The Tempest, in conjunction with the Middlebury Town Theater. I heard good things about last year’s production and look forward to seeing this year’s.

Next week, January 22nd at 9:00, our all school meeting will be held at the brick building, across from the school. Mrs. Beste’s class will be conducting a small presentation on Martin Luther King and “bullying”. Parents are welcome to attend.

Leading a small school has many advantages, one being the amount of time I get to spend in your children’s classrooms. I continue to be impressed with the professionalism and creativity I see from the teachers, paraprofessionals, and special educators. We are truly lucky to have such a fine staff!

Lastly, I wanted to mention that we are planning to have a spaghetti dinner the night of February 13th. Proceeds will benefit the Leicester Alive afterschool program. We are excited about hosting another community event with you and your children. So, save the date for the 13th of February and more details will follow.

Mr. Corey
