Principal’s Corner:

I regard it as the foremost task of education to ensure survival of these qualities: an enterprising curiosity; an undefeatable spirit, readiness for sensible self-denial and, above all, compassion”

                       - Kurt Hahn

We are off to a great start here at Leicester Central School.  Our first week and a half has been humid and hot, but our students and staff have risen to the occasion.  If you drop by the school, and I hope you do, you will notice a few changes to the building.  The summer camp created a colorful mural that has been mounted on the outside of the building.  The students and summer staff should feel proud of their artistic creation.  We also have added shutters to the windows that give a homey feeling to our school.  On the playground, the children can now play on the new Whirl which was installed this summer.

Inside, we have attempted to open up the cafeteria a bit, allowing our specialists more room to conduct their classes.  Our new nurse, Mrs. Kelly Lu, and our home-school coordinator, Ms. Nancy McGill, are now located behind Mrs. Randall’s office.  A divider separates the room, allowing our math specialist, Mr. Leonard, and Speech and Language teacher, Mrs. Blagden, their own area.  The library area has been spruced up by our Library assistant, Mrs. Cretia Waldie, and our new librarian, Mrs. Nancy Kerwin.

Other new staff also include: Mrs. Kyle O’Brien, a special educator who can be found in the special education room with Mrs. Deb Bonanza.  Most of the time Mrs. O’Brien will be in the 5/6 classroom with the new classroom teacher, Mrs. Kara Beste.

We would love for you to drop by and see the school for yourself.  The principal’s location hasn’t changed and I would welcome visitors!  In the coming weeks, I will be contacting parents to have a meet and greet with me, letting me know your wishes, hopes, and dreams for your children.  I am here 80% of the time and, for the most part, will not be here on Fridays.  However, the school staff can always contact me , if need be.

Many thanks to FOLCS for providing fruit and coffee for our “First Day Back” breakfast.  Also, thank you for spreading the pea stone that was placed under and around the whirl.

I look forward to a great year with your children, their teachers, and you, their parents/guardians, grandparents, and extended family.

                            Mr. Earl Corey
