Ms. Carter’s 1st and 2nd grade class comments on their canoeing field trip

posted Oct 28, 2013, 7:46 AM by Diane Randall
Cole:  I liked spelling LEICESTER with long, skinny rocks.  We made a firepit.
Kayleigh:  I liked that I didn't have to paddle!
Brady:  I got to paddle for my first time.  It was a fun experience and a new thing for me.
Chase:  I liked going on the dam because it was high up.
Baker:  I never even thought that a principal would take us canoeing. The best part of canoeing was paddling.
Autumn:  It was my first time in a canoe.  Steve's dog, Bella, was in the canoe.  She jumped in Jholai's lap because she was scared!
Chrissy:  I got tired of paddling because my arms hurt!

Baker LaRock’s 4 step system to get ready for canoeing
> Step 1.  Get the PFD aka personal floatation device.

> Step 2.  Put the canoe horizontally across the shoreline.  Then get in the  boat and push out with the oar.  When you're in the water do not paddle   on both sides.  If you want to turn, paddle on the side you want to turn to.

> Step 3.  If you have to cross a bridge and you're afraid of heights either look up or to the side.  I learned that the hard way.

> Step 4.  To have a picnic bring a lunch and bring a good one.  Then all you have to do is eat your lunch.
